There are ones that are character based:
- IC - In Character.
- OOC - Out of Character - if you aren't posting as your character or available to, we ask that you wear an OOC tag to inform other players of such.
- PC - Player Character - these are the average characters played by people
- NPC - Non-Player Character - there are technically two kinds of these on SecondLife Roleplay Sims.
- Most common are the mesh character objects spread around a sim to give it life. Some behind counters for when there are no PC's running a shop.
- Then there's the ones active for story purposes to provide information or play a role required to keep a story moving.
Roleplay and combat types:
- RP - Roleplay - when acting in the character you are playing.
- Para RP - Paragraph Roleplay - this has posts that hold more than one or 2 lines of text. Often preferred as it gives more to react/reply to.
- ERP - Erotic Roleplay - the more spicy side of roleplay.
- FTB - Fade To Black - Like in the movies, where a scene fades to black. Some request this for scenes they're uncomfortable with that follow story and cant be avoided.
- FFC - Free Form Combat - is your basic roleplayed fight method where you only use text (no dice or combat system).
- CS - Combat System - the one we use is dice based (SW:RPG scroll for details and links), not a first person shooter type meter.
These next ones are the things that are against the rules entirely.
- Metagame - using any information in character that is based on knowledge you've gained through out of character methods (or on another character altogether).
- Godmod - is to refuse to take any damage. Just because consent is needed to kill your character, doesnt give you a free pass to be a poor player.
- Powergame - is taking away another roleplayer's choices in how to react in a situation, or autohitting them.
What is RolePlay? Roleplay is, at it's basic level, acting out a character in a provided or created setting. Your character is not you, you are not your character.
For example, some people play characters that can be mean, that does not mean they are that way personally, or OOC, It's just the personality and views of the character they happen to be playing. RP is more interesting with all kinds of personality types interacting, taking the negativity OOC is heavily frowned upon. |
